About Project :

As retailers struggle to sustain their livelihood this Covid-19 period, measures are taken to ensure social distancing. Yet, both retailers and customers are facing some difficulties. To address this issue, using existing infrastructure such as video surveillance and security systems we have proposed Crowd Density Monitoring to ensure that people spread out as mandated by government and health officials. Upon detection of non-compliance of protocols, audio or visuals alerts can be triggered to warn customers and retailers.

This solution can take any security camera's footage and extract information on the people seen on video. Using this concept, we calculate the number of people present in that particular area. Now, as per government guidelines the threshold limit is pre-set. Then, we allot this data into three categories namely - SAFE, RISKY & HIGHLY-RISKY.

SAFE : If the population count of that particular area is less than the threshold limit (pre-set) then no further action is required.

RISKY :
If the population count of that particular area is more than the threshold limit but less than 1.5 times of it, then an automated warning protocol is activated. The public announcement system is sounded, warning people to maintain social distancing and to avoid unnecessary gatherings.

HIGHLY RISKY :
If the population count of that particular area is more than the threshold limit  then an alarm goes off and a siren is sounded. Health authorities and local police stations are alerted to take appropriate steps and can even close the area if necessary.

This proposed monitoring network can be set-up in public places such as railway stations, airports, shopping malls, local markets, eateries and even in educational institutions. The chances of We recognize that the world will be a very different place after lockdown is lifted and public venues reopen. We wanted to do our part to help restore the public’s confidence in going to the airport, bus stop, market, or any other place, simultaneously taking all precautionary measures. By providing authorities with real time crowd density information they can take immediate action to uphold proper social spacing.

Future Plans :

An indefinite amount of improvements can be done. Some of which include inclusion of synchronization with Aarogya Setu. Using information from the app we would be able to track potential Covid-19 patients, so for example when a family member visits local store alarms goes off, cautioning everyone nearby.

By tracking people, we could be able to plot a heatmap. This heatmap would allow us to identify where most people are visiting. For example, in a shopping complex, post-covid most people would visit the groceries stores, hardly anyone would visit the toy store. Hence managers of that complex can decide to sanitise groceries area more frequently than toys area.
